DAY 2

Mt. Etna - Alcantara Gorges

The volcanic landscapes around Mt. Etna draw travellers from far and wide, and reaching the highest peaks is a challenge. This adventurous full-day tour from Taormina includes food-tastings in Zafferana Etnea and a visit to the Parco dell’Etna. Delve into a lava cave with a guide, marvel at Italy’s volcanic landscape from the Rifugio Sapienza, and delve deep into the Alcantara Gorges — home to lava formations shaped over millions of years.

DAY 3

Noto - Ragusa - Ortigia

This cultural excursion will allow you to visit the Greek and Roman classical Syracuse monuments in the archaeological park of Neapolis. From the archaeological park, the tour goes to the island of Ortigia, the heart of Siracusa. In the afternoon you will visit the city of Noto, considered a true “open-air museum”.

DAY 4

Siracusa

Siracusa is the most beautiful and greatest Greek colony in Sicily and a World Heritage Site! The visit will start with the Archaeological Park of Neapolis, with its Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Latomie of Paradise and the Ear of Dionysius.

DAY 5

Agrigento - La Valle dei Templi

Today we will visit the Valley of the Temples stated a World Heritage Site, where the rests of the ancient Akragas rise among hundreds of almond trees. It was defined by Pyndar “the most beautiful city of mortals”. Once one of the most prosperous of the ancient Greek cities on the island, Agrigento offers a remarkable series of Doric Temples of the 5th century. You will see the “Temple of Hera”, the “Temple of Concordia” and the “Temple of Heracles”.

DAY 6

Marsala - Isole Egadi - Trapani: The Salt Road

The tour will continue on the west coast of Sicily with many salt marshes, which have given rise to one of the oldest salt-extracting industries in the world. Between Trapani and Marsala they are now protected, in part because of the interesting birdlife, and also as important sites of industrial archaelogy. On the way you will see the nice Island of Mothia (situated at the centre of a large lagoon in Marsala, known today as ‘Stagnone’), and the famous Salt Pans and windmills.

DAY 7

Egadi Islands

The archipelago of the Egadi Islands, in the beautiful province of Trapani, is located in the extreme Western end of Sicily. It includes Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo and the famous islands of the Stagnone, the Lagoon in Marsala.
Favignana or “Big Butterfly”, so named because of its shape, is famous for its picturesque bays; Cala Azzurra, Cala Rossa and Cala Rotonda give glimpses of priceless beauty, thanks to the typical tuff rocks and the many shades of blue.
The old tuna fishery witnesses a thriving fishing industry, which is still part of the island’s life.
Levanzo, with a tiny inhabited centre, is solitary and pure and this makes it attractive while Marettimo lives of mythical memory; it should be the famous Ithaca of Ulysses.
Not to miss also the Islands of the Lagoon with the pink sunsets of Mozia, the salt flats, the mills and the flight of the flamingos.

DAY 8

Trapani - Le Saline

The tour will continue along the charming and well-known Salt Road on the west coast of Sicily with many salt marshes, today one of the oldest salt-extracting industries in the world. Between Trapani and Marsala they are now protected, in part because of the interesting birdlife, and also as important sites of industrial archaeology.

DAY 9

San Vito Lo Capo

Near San Vito Lo Capo is the Riserva dello Zingaro (The Reserve of the Gipsy), a stunning natural reserve. The lovely sea village of San Vito Lo Capo is one of the best tourist destination in Sicily, with its beautiful white beach and its breathtaking bay.

DAY 10

Palermo

The capital of Sicily Palermo, is one of the richest towns in the island for its history and art. Palermo stands on a bay at the foot of Mt Pellegrino, a headland described by Goethe as the loveliest he had ever seen. While the Baroque predominates, there is a profusion of different architectural styles reflecting the city’s multicultural past, including an elegant opera house! We will visit the wonderful Arab-Norman Cathedral, the astonishing Martorana Church and the amazing Cappella Palatina, mirable example from an historical and an artistic point of view, of how different cultures, religions and way of thinking apparently incompatible can coexist. Ruggero II in fact employed both Bizantyne, Muslim and Latin workers. We will admire the debated fountain in Pretoria Square, situated in the ancient Kalsa area. We will proceed to Monreale to visit its huge Norman Cathedral, proclaimed the Eighth Wonder of the World, and its splendid Cloister in Arab-Norman style: admirable masterpiece of art, sculpture, and semi-precious stones marquetry!
